The Economato Solidario will distribute around one hundred thousand kilos of food to more than 1,200 people in 2022.

More than 1,200 people in more than 470 families will benefit from the Economato Solidario throughout 2022. The Ramon Molinas Foundation is collaborating with the Roure Foundation with the aim of providing food parcels to people and families who are socioeconomically vulnerable using a social economy model that serves to empower users of the service and help to preserve and develop personal autonomy.

At the Economato Solidario, users can choose the groceries they need. Food items are displayed on shelves and costed at the value in points assigned to each item depending on its nutritional value and market price. Points are given out weekly depending on each person’s needs and the number of people in their family. Throughout the shopping process, users have the support of staff and volunteers overseeing the project to help them with household management and to make the right choices depending on their diet and personal needs. The Economato Solidario also carries out awareness and educational work with families to promote a balanced and healthy diet.

Throughout 2022, more than 1,200 people in more than 470 families will benefit from the initiative which will distribute more than one hundred thousand kilos of food, mainly essential items such as milk, meat, fruit, vegetables, legumes, eggs, pasta and preserves, as well as personal hygiene products.

The Roure Foundation has been working in the neighbourhoods of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona since 1992. With 30 years of experience, the organisation has an in-depth knowledge of the environment and circumstances of its inhabitants: the precariousness of housing, an aging population and the socioeconomic difficulties faced on a daily basis. Given these circumstances, the objective of the foundation is to help with the basic needs of elderly people and low-income families with immediacy, solidarity, and teamwork.
