A space to maximise care for people with intellectual disabilities and other developmental disorders

The Ramon Molinas Foundation is collaborating with Aspanias to extend the lease of a 211 square meter centre located on Calle Cartagena in Barcelona. The collaboration, in the form of a rent subsidy, began in 2016 and will now be extended until 2026. The new premises has helped the organisation to improve its infrastructure, maximise care, and respond to the increase in the number of families using the service. The centre houses the Therapeutic Care Service (SAT) Aspanias Cartagena and areas dedicated to the administration and management of the organisation.

Aspanias seeks to improve the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities and other developmental disorders by providing comprehensive, personalised care and promoting social inclusion. In the new centre, the organisation will provide speech therapy, pedagogical care and social care, and will hold physiotherapy, psychomotricity, and music therapy sessions.

Aspanias, an award-winning association with a long history

The Aspanias association was created in 1960 by a group of parents concerned about the needs of their children. For more than fifty years the objective of the organisation has been to work towards the normalisation and social integration of people with intellectual disabilities, from young children to older adults. The association, which now works with 400 people annually, was declared a non-profit organisation in 1970 and awarded the Cross of Saint George by the Government of Catalonia on the 3 December 1987.

Aspanias offers network of assisted apartments and residences; an Early Intervention and Child Development Centre (CDIAP), which looks after children from zero to six years old; the Therapeutic Care Service (SAT), which looks after children, young people, and adults with specific needs. It also provides a Psychological Care Centre for Adults, a Leisure Service and an Orientation and Information Service.
