Solmevis, a virtual technological platform based on the principles of integrative oncology
The Ramon Molinas Foundation has collaborated with the Fundacode foundation in order to plan, develop and install a virtual technological support platform for people who suffer from or who have recovered from cancer. The tool takes the shape of a forum as part of the website Qualivida, a web page created by Fundacode based on the principles of integrative oncology.
The platform is an invitation to develop new attitudes which help to improve quality of life. Solmevis covers topics related to healthy eating, the benefits of physical exercise and emotional health. The forum also includes information about mentors and other organisations to approach for help, alongside its own content.
Solmevis uses the internet to its advantage in order to reach a large part of the diversely-spread population, breaking physical barriers. The project is supported by the Stress and health Research Group and the Lifestyle, Sport and Health Research Group, as well as the Psychology Faculty of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and relies on the close collaboration of medical staff at the Catalan Oncology Institute (ICO).
Integrative oncology, combining conventional medicine with other complementary activities
Integrative oncology combines conventional medicine with complementary and alternative activities that contribute to the recovery process of people who suffer from cancer. The union of both concepts helps to improve quality of life and the overall health of the patient, providing comprehensive physical and emotional care.
The discipline suggests guidelines to improve diet, increase physical activity and, most importantly, find emotional balance. Integrative oncology is supported by the Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO). It is a practice underpinned by scientists, demonstrated by the expansion of a number of dedicated hospital centres in the United States and Canada. The Anderson Cancer Centre, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Mayo Clinic, the Juravinski Cancer Center, the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont and the MCMaster University work with the principles of integrative oncology.
Fundacode, a Valencian organisation with a global vision
The Foundation for Interregional Cooperation and Development (Fundacode) was born in the year 1994 in the Valencian area of Velluters. Sparked by the Association for Promotion and Professional Integration (APIP), currently the Apip-Acam Foundation, its objective is to promote, design and carry out projects at state level.
