The centre was designed with the objective of encouraging the personal autonomy of people with intellectual disabilities.
The Ramon Molinas Foundation is collaborating with the construction of a Housing Complex for people with intellectual disabilities built by the Arc de Sant Martí Foundation by donating and installing wall readers for the building as part of the access control and alert system.
The Arc de Sant Martí Foundation Housing Complex for people with intellectual disabilities is scheduled to open in October, goes above and beyond traditional models of healthcare. The whole design of the building and the physical and technological adaptations installed have been developed with the purpose of promoting the personal autonomy of its users. The equipment has been adapted to the needs of the people living in the complex, supporting them to live self-directed lives.
At 1,900 meters squared, Arc de Sant Martí Foundation Housing Complex has the capacity to house a total of 48 people, distributed between 20 homes. To promote the personal autonomy of the users, the Arc de Sant Martí Foundation devised an access control and alert system. Every user has a personalised card that gives them access to the spaces and resources in the building. The card is the key that opens the door to their bedroom, but also provides them with access to different areas, and potentially dangerous electrical appliances, depending on the abilities of the person.
The access control and alert system includes wall readers, that also control access to electrical appliances; handles and alarms installed in the bathrooms so users can alert staff when they need assistance; an audio induction loop, assistive listening technology for users with hearing aids that makes it easier for users to hear their environment, for orientation, mobility, and to improve sound perception; and smart locks, that provide access to the apartments and spaces of the building, among other features.
The Arc de Sant Martí Foundation is an organisation created in 1986 with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities and their families. With its roots in Martorell, the Arc de Sant Martí Foundation also helps residents Baix Llobregat Nord.
