A project to face the end stage of life process with dignity
Ramon Molinas Foundation participates in the Program for patients at end stage of life with social needs, created by Fundación Paraclínic with the support of the Institut Català de la Salut. The initiative will help to enlarge the coverage of Fundación Paliaclínic to a new sector of the city of Barcelona. It is the Sistema d’Atenció Primària Dreta de Barcelona (Primary Care System of Barcelona), which will include the Passeig Sant Joan, Encants, Camp de l’Arpa, Joanic, Vila de Gràcia, Sanllehy, Baix Guinardó, Sagrera and Congrés.
Fundación Paliaclínic will provide services and aids during a period from one to three months, to patients in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability, so that they can face the end stage of life process with dignity and at home. The aid will start the moment the entity detects the necessity until the death of the patient, or until the public convenience takes over from the Foundation after the relevant administrative procedures.
The aim of the program is to make feasible that the process of accompaniment and attention is carried out at home, and that it can be faced with the highest dignity, the least suffering, and with the desired company. It is anticipated that the program will be able to help 60 families during a period of one year, a fact that involves an average of five new cases per month.
Technical and emotional support
Fundación Paliaclínic will provide the part-time aid from a family worker who will be in charge of the basic attention of the patient. On the other hand, they will also facilitate technical help in order to guarantee the beneficiary’s comfort. Among others, the Foundation will lend special mattresses to those patients who have to remain in bed for a long time, adjustable beds, or wheelchairs.
In these processes, emotional support is very important. The patients need to feel supported, loved, and respected, so as to feel human beings until the end. For this reason, the entity will provide the emotional support of a psychologist for the patient and their relatives. All these actions will be completed with other complementary treatments for emotional support, such as art therapy or music therapy.
Fundación Paliaclínic, an organization sensitized with end stage of life situations
Fundación Paliaclínic was born in 2008 as a result of the will of a group of people specially sensitized with respect to end stage of life situations. Circumstances where both the patient and their relatives face multiple difficulties and deficiencies in a highly emotionally charged context.
Since its creation, the entity has established as a main goal the support of patients in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability so that they can face the process with dignity and at home.
