Inter-university Master in Technological Information and Communications Security (MISTIC)
The inter-university Master in Technological Information and Communications Security (MISTIC), developed by the Open University of Catalonia, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Rovira i Vergili University and with the participation of the University of the Balearic Islands, provides academically rigorous official training to a high level aimed at professionals who want to specialise in the field of information technology security.
The demand for engineers, computer technicians, or experts in telecommunications specifically prepared to work in the area of information and communication security is only getting larger. On the one hand, electronic transactions are becoming more common and the legislation which surrounds this process more demanding. On the other hand, companies are more conscious of the security risks, and therefore the desire to invest in protection systems has risen. Finally, the ability to guarantee information security within an organisation is becoming increasingly key.
The master’s course offers general skills covering the vulnerabilities of security in information systems, how to protect such systems, and aspects of national and international legislation related to the field of security (Data Protection Laws, E-commerce Laws, Digital Signature Laws etc.).
Students can choose between three specialities: network and systems security, services and applications security, and management and assessment of information security. The research speciality will provide a solid base which will allow students to continue their academic career to doctorate level.
Students acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge. After completing the programme, they will be capable of designing strategies to guarantee the security of information technology resources, implementing policies which safeguard company activities and developing and installing solutions regarding security in real environments. All of this work will be based on the ethical and legal standards as directed by Information Security.
The grant programme will provide the best eight applications with a place on an inter-university Master in Technological Information and Communications Security (MISTIC). 50% of the cost of the grant, with a total value of 3,000 euros, will be awarded to the students on enrolment. The remaining 50% will be awarded on completing their studies, on the condition that they pass the master’s course.
