Gavines, a shelter for women at risk of social exclusion

Ramon Molinas Foundation has participated in the program Gavines Long Stay Shelter. The home, owned by Cáritas Diocesana of Barcelona, is conceived for pregnant women who are in the last period of gestation, or with children, and at risk of social exclusion or abused. Besides, the center also includes aid for those women that for different reasons have difficulties in taking care of themselves and their children.

The aim of the Long Stay Shelter is to facilitate a safe environment to the beneficiaries and their children, guarantee their basic needs, and provide comprehensive support so that they can reach a certain level of autonomy to enable themselves to live with dignity. The center has a maximum capacity for 12 families -36 people- organized in six living units. The average time of stay is between 12-18 months.

Cáritas Diocesana of Barcelona, an organization with a long humanitarian history

Caritas is the global humanitarian organization of the Catholic Church. Cáritas Diocesana of Barcelona belongs to the framework that forms this organization. The delegation of the diocese of Barcelona was born in 1944 and since their beginnings has welcomed and worked with people in situation of poverty and vulnerability.

The activities of the organization are focused on the framework of social action, the sensitization of the society, and the denunciation of situations of injustice. Besides, the entity fights against poverty, social exclusion, intolerance, discrimination, and against those actions that violate human rights.

Since 2007 the entity has doubled the number of people assisted and has detected that attention to families tends to lengthen in time. 72% of the people that Cáritas Diocesana of Barcelona helped in 2012 had already been assisted before. Throughout that same year, Cáritas Diocesana of Barcelona assisted a total amount of 59,853 people and their community action shared more than 25 million euros among those who needed it most.

23 families assisted along 2013

Throughout 2013, the period in which Ramon Molinas Foundation collaborated with the Gavines Long Stay Shelter, 23 families were assisted. A total amount of 23 women and 34 children were benefited with the services promoted by the program of Cáritas Diocesana of Barcelona.
