Albatros, a residence that houses people with intellectual disability who need a home
Ramon Molinas Foundation supported the adequacy of the home-residence Albatros, owned by Fundació Esmen, in order to improve the life quality of its users. The center offers a permanent residential service aimed to people with an intellectual disability who need a home once it has turned out inadvisable that they should live independently as a consequence of the complications arising from their disability, or for their lack of a family, or for not having the adequate social and familiar care conditions.
The home-residence Albatros is formed by a multidisciplinary team which includes a technical director, a social worker, direct care professionals, and a person in charge of health and hygiene.
To assure a decent standard of living, the aim of the center
The main goal of the home-residence Albatros is to assure a decent standard of living to all its users. In order to materialize this, the center facilitates an environment that substitutes an adequate home, and adapted to the needs of assistance of all the daily life activities, assisting the individual needs of each person and having in mind the corresponding treatment and the pathology of each of its users.
The professionals of Albatros seek to promote the maintenance or the recovery of the maximum degree of personal and social autonomy of its users. This state is achieved by the acquisition of habits of personal autonomy, ability of social and contextual relationships, and the development of creativity and personal initiative.
The multidisciplinary team of Albatros is in charge of organising the activities that give an answer to the individual and social needs of the users. Such activities go from supporting activities of daily living –personal care, organization of coexistence, or habits and rules-, to programming training, leisure and free time activities. Theatre, dance, and cooking workshops, cultural visits to museums and the cinema, table games or sports, are some of the many activities that the users of the home carry out.
Fundació Esmen, an entity at the service of people with intellectual disabilities
Fundació Esmen is a non-profit private entity dedicated to the care of people with intellectual disabilities. Created in 1997, its main goal is to promote, encourage and pursue the comprehensive rehabilitation, as well as to cure and protect adults with psychological problems, personality disorders, and difficulties of familiar and social integration through the development of their intellectual and human faculties, reinforcing their personality, integrating their affectivity, and promoting their sociability.
Apart from the home-residence Albatros, Fundació Esmen has the occupational center La Gavina and the special work center Pingüinet. The occupational center La Gavina is a day care service that is proposed as an alternative to the labor integration of those people with intellectual disabilities who have difficulties to get into the labor market. Besides, the special work center Pingüinet is also a day care service that ensures the social and labor integration of people with intellectual disabilities. Pingüinet is formed by disabled people, coordinated by qualified staff, and offers the services of cleaning, dry or water, as well as ironing, in all the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
The three areas of activity of Fundació Esmen have an interdisciplinary team of people who ensure the comprehensive care of each user.
