The RMF is collaborating with the L’Hopitalet de Llobregat organisation to guarantee equal opportunities in education and leisure.
The neighbourhoods of Collblanc and La Torrassa make up the most densely populated square kilometre in Europe, according to Eurostat. A total of 53,119 people live in the area. This figure makes up 20.64% of the population of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, a city in which 18.2% of inhabitants are at risk of poverty.
In this context, the Ramon Molinas Foundation is collaborating with the Itaca Educational Association to launch the Summer Camp 2018. The initiative, with places for 850 children and adolescents between 3 and 16 years old from Collblanc and La Torrassa at risk of social exclusion, creates equal opportunities in both education and leisure. 52% of the children attending have been recommended by Social Services or other similar organisations in the area. The Summer Camp therefore ensures the participation of children with functional diversity and behavioural disorders.
The Itaca Educational Association Summer Camp teaches children how to live together, about cultural diversity and social integration, and works towards developing healthy eating habits in a fun environment. The initiative works alongside the community project, promoting the insertion and participation of children and adolescents in the local, social, and cultural life of the neighbourhoods above. The Summer Camp focuses on activities that support schooling, cultural learning, health education, participation, social competence, leisure and sports education. In parallel, Summer Camp organises activities outside of the facilities where it takes place. The attendees go on two weekly excursions as part of a varied activities programme. In addition to occupying the children over their summer holidays, they are guaranteed three meals per day: breakfast, lunch, and a snack.
Founded in the year 1977, the Itaca Educational Association is an organisation with its roots in the neighbourhoods of Collblanc and Torrassa in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat that runs socioeducational projects for the community. Its mission is to promote equal opportunities and activities that encourage personal development and empowerment in children, young people, and their families.
