The programmes include providing school meal grants to combat child malnutrition, financial aid to improve linguistic skills in children with socio-economic difficulties and help towards the costs of schooling.
The Ramon Molinas Foundation is committed to children and young people who suffer from socio-economic difficulties. During the 2015-2016 school year, the RMF will initiate a collaborative, comprehensive programme which will provide school meal grants to combat child malnutrition, financial aid to improve linguistic skills of children with socio-economic difficulties and help so that families are able to afford schooling at nursery, primary, secondary or baccalaureate level and related expenditures such as school meals or extracurricular activities. The schemes will be implemented thanks to the cooperation of the Barcelona Children’s Hospital Foundation, alongside the Pare Manyanet centres and the Dominicas de la Enseñanza Educational Foundation.
The child nutrition support programme, a scheme to combat the malnutrition of children in Catalonia
69,000 children and young people will benefit from the school meal grants awarded by the public authorities during the 2014-2015 school year in Catalonia, according to sources at the Department of Social Welfare and Family. Even so, only 25% of under 16s below the poverty line have access to this type of financial support.
The Ramon Molinas Foundation, with the collaboration of the Barcelona Children’s Hospital Foundation, will help to maximise the reach of grants with the objective of combatting child malnutrition in Catalonia. The RMF will offer a total of ten yearly school meal grants to pupils from the ten centres providing children’s nursery, primary school education and obligatory secondary school education run by the Vicenciana School Foundation in Catalonia, prioritising those in most urgent need.
Manyanet Educa, a programme to improve students’ linguistic skills
Fluency in foreign languages is vital for encouraging the geographical mobility of students, which as a result, expands their horizons and opportunities, and improves their futures. The goal of Manyanet Educa is to improve the linguistic and communication skills of pupils at the Pare Manyanet institutions in Catalonia through language exchange programmes. The initiative focuses on providing support for families with financial difficulties so that their children do not miss out on the opportunity of training or studying in the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland or France. The programme is made up of 13 exchange projects where students, as well as perfecting their language skills, can have a personal, cultural and enriching life experience.
Education for all, a support programme for schooling students with socio-economic hardship
For the third year running, the Ramon Molinas Foundation is renewing its collaboration with the Dominicas de la Enseñanza institution in Barcelona in order to support students who suffer from socio-economic difficulties. Education for all provides assistance to families located by the social services and by the Department of Educational Psychology and Social Orientation so they are able to take on the costs of schooling at nursery, primary, secondary and baccalaureate level and related expenditures such as school meals and extracurricular activities.
