Eight university students aged between 18 and 19 will benefit from quality teaching provided by the British Council.
Not all young people are able to go to university. Spanish universities are the most expensive in Europe and have one of the highest average tuition fees. While the 15 universities that are part of the European Higher Education Area pay less than €100 per year to study a degree, Spain is the second most expensive country for university degrees, according to a report by the Federación de Enseñanza de Comisiones Obreras (CCOO). And despite of these high prices, Spain is one of four countries in the 37 analysed that does not provide a system of state loans to help students attend university, or offer any benefits or tax breaks for students’ families.
BarcelonActua, through the BAC Scholarships, supports young people from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds with talent and skills so they don’t miss the opportunity to go to university. The organisation, which provides scholarships to students with financial difficulties, covers the cost of tuition, transportation and school material during the first three years of their university studies. With the aim of supporting the BarcelonActua’s mission, the Ramon Molinas Foundation will help the BAC Scholarship recipients with their learning and improvement of the English language with the RMF: Scholarship in English for young adults at the British Council. The program, which was created in 2014 as a result of the collaboration with the British Council, intends to promote personalised teaching in English, aiming to foster learning in high-acheiving young people from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds.
The BAC Scholarships recipients will be able to participate in a programme consisting of a total of 40 hours of personalised English language classes at the British Council’s centre in Barcelona, and benefit from the advantages of learning and improving English. Aside from personal development, the program will also provide students with the tools to communicate and interact with the international community.
Since 2014, the Ramon Molinas Foundation has offered a total of 85 scholarships helping talented young people from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds to study English with the British Council.
