The RMF is collaborating with the organisation with the aim of encouraging the personal autonomy of people with cerebral palsy.
The Ramon Molinas Foundation is collaborating with the Aspace Foundation Catalonia with the aim of utilising psychological and neuropsychological physiotherapy equipment for the treatment of people with cerebral palsy and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
The collaboration between the two organisations will provide the Physical Therapy Service at the Aspace Foundation Catalonia, which works with a thousand people every year, with several devices such as Tyromotion, one of the world leaders in high-tech physiotherapy equipment.
The initiative will assist with the purchase of a device for the rehabilitation of the upper and lower extremities, and another to train postural control. The device for the rehabilitation of the upper and lower extremities, named Pablo, can be used for the head, torso, arms, forearms, hands, fingers, legs, and feet. Therapists can place motion sensors on one or both sides of the body and set force and a range of motion for a large number of movement patterns. TYMO on the other hand is used to train specific and sensitive postural control. The tool allows the patient to practise fine and gross motor skills, rotations, and total hand-eye and motor coordination through physiotherapy that involves interaction with apps and with real objects.
Technology-based rehabilitation tools allow medical professionals to create a personalised treatment plan for each patient. The devices can be altered to focus on the specific requirements of each patient according to their age, needs, abilities and stage of rehabilitation. Healthcare professionals can ensure patients are practising their exercises at the optimum level of difficulty. They can adapt the therapy depending on the patient’s progress, which in turn, boosts patient motivation to continue with the treatment.
The Aspace Foundation Catalonia (Aspace) is a non-profit organisation founded in 1961. The institution was created thanks to the work of a group of parents with children affected by cerebral palsy who had the determination to promote the research, diagnosis, rehabilitation, education, advancement, and support of people who suffer from this disorder or other developmental disorders.
