The RMF is collaborating with Paidós L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, a centre which empowers families excluded from society in order to prevent the perpetuation of their circumstances from generation to generation.
One in ten children in Spain – around 840,000 minors – live in chronic poverty and will grow up under these circumstances, according to a study completed with data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE). In order to combat this, the Ramon Molinas Foundation has decided to collaborate with Cáritas Diocesana de Barcelona to support Paidós L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, a pilot programme launched with the aim of alleviating the consequences of hereditary child poverty and preventing it from becoming a chronic problem through the empowerment of families excluded from society.
Paidós L’Hospitalet de Llobregat believes in the capabilities and the resources of families as a mechanism for change. For this reason, the work of the professionals on board the programme is focused around empowering the members which make up the family units, with the aim of alleviating child poverty. The scheme provides comprehensive care, utilising methods and intervention strategies to foment skills and provide support throughout the process of development, both as an individual and within the family.
The centre, which has the capacity to support and attend to 16 families at the same time, is one of the five offices that Cáritas has opened since the year 2012 to evaluate the impact of the programme. The other four centres are found in Barcelona (one in Poblenou and another in Roquetes), in Santa Coloma de Gramenet and in Sant Adrià de Besòs.
