The center, run by Fundació Esmen, promotes the social and labor integration of people with intellectual disabilities.
Ramon Molinas Foundation will contribute with the enlargement of the Occupational Center La Gavina that Fundació Esmen has in Barcelona. La Gavina is a day care service that promotes the social and labor integration of those people with intellectual disabilities –equal or above 65%-, who because of their conditions have difficulties to join the world of work.
Its main aim is to guarantee a decent standard of living to all its users through promoting their autonomy. To achieve this, the professionals that form part of the center work on the basis of an annual program of activities where the personal and social adjustment of the users and the performance of pre-employment activities and activities of therapeutic occupation are the cornerstones. The activities of personal adjustment enable the beneficiaries of the service to acquire habits of personal and social autonomy, promote the personal relationships among them, offer the guidelines to behave correctly, and make them participate in activities within normal environments in order to stimulate the integration in the community. Also, the pre-employment activities are intended for the beneficiaries of the service so that they can acquire the adequate labor habits in order to achieve a full integration.
Fundació Esmen is a non-profit private entity dedicated to the care of people with intellectual disabilities. Apart from the Occupational Center La Gavina, Fundació Esmen has the home-residence Albatros and the special workplace center Pingüinet.
