The program offers an educational and playful provision for children and young people of Nou Barris at risk of social exclusion.
Again this year, the Fundació Pare Manel has programmed the Casal Comedor Intercultural in the frame of the activities that the entity plans every summer. In this edition, Ramon Molinas Foundation will bear the total cost of the initiative dedicated to offer an educational and playful provision for children and young ones at risk of social exclusion from the neighbourhood of Nou Barris,Barcelona, one of the most hit areas of the city by the current socioeconomic context.
The Casal Comedor Intercultural is destined to children and young ones between 3 and 16 years old, and educates for coexistence, cultural diversity and social integration. Besides, the initiative guarantees them two daily meals and influences on the values of participation in a playful context, through activities such as workshops, crafts, games, theatre, music and excursions.
The family characteristics of the participants feature low incomes, precarious homes, low cultural level, and contacts with delinquency and addictions, among others. With respect to their personal characteristics, due to the family ones, they are children or young ones with hygienic and feeding deficits, have a high degree of aggressiveness and unrest, and have a low cultural level due to a high school dropout rate.
At the district of Nou Barris, where the family income does not exceed 60% of the average of Barcelona, it is in summer when these difficulties are accentuated. By simply not having a defined school rhythm, many of these children and young people are left unattended and have difficulties to satisfy the basic needs of feeding and hygiene.
