Inter-University Master’s Degree in Security of Information and Communication Technologies
The Inter-University Master’s Degree in Security of Information and Communication Technologies, developed by the Open University of Catalonia and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Rovira i Virgili University and with the participation of the University of the Balearic Islands, provides formal training of a high level and of academic rigour addressed to professionals wishing to specialise in the area of information security.
The demand for engineers, computer technicians or telecommunication specialists, specifically trained to work within the filed of information-technology and communications security is increasingly more pronounced. On the one hand, electronic transactions are ever-more frequent and their corresponding legislation is increasingly stringent. On the other hand, companies are more and more aware of the risks involved in security and the wish to invest in protection systems has increased. Furthermore , it is now absolutely basic to guarantee the security of an organisation as regards its computer systems.
The Master’s degree provides general skills pertaining to security vulnerabilities in computer systems, how to protect such systems and aspects of national and international legislation relating to the ambit of security (data-protection laws, e-commerce laws, laws on digital signatures, etc.).
Students may chose from three specialisations: network and systems security; security in services and applications; and the management and auditing of information security. Additionally, the research specialisation provides a solid base that facilitates students who wish to continue their academic career to the level of doctoral studies.
Students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge, which means that, on completion of the programme, they are capable of designing strategies that can guarantee the security of computer resources, implant policies that defend corporate assets and develop and put in place security-related solutions in real environments. All of this under the auspices of the standards and ethical-legal aspects that govern information security.
This scholarship programme will cover the cost of studies for the six most talented students on the Inter-University Master’s Degree in Security of Information and Communication Technologies, also taking into account their financial circumstances. In this respect, gifted students with insufficient resources to develop their abilities will be helped.
