Sharing Academy is a peer-to-peer marketplace which allows students to find and offer private classes in the same university community.

Sharing Academy was on the verge of becoming one of the six finalists of the first UOC-RMF Prizes. In spite of this, two years later, the app created by Jordi Llonch has been award Best App 2016 at the Mobile Premier Awards. The app, which received the prize as part of the Mobile World Congress, promotes support and collaboration in learning thanks to the sharing of knowledge between students at the same university.

Sharing Academy is a platform where students who achieved high marks in a subject can offer classes to other students who need extra academic support. The objective of the initiative is to improving the academic results of universities through teaching methods adapted to each student in exchange for financial compensation decided by the tutor themselves.

For Llonch, the application was created out of necessity. At the same time that he was working as a commercial pilot for Austrian Airlines, the founder of the application was studying for a degree in Multimedia at the Open University of Catalonia, but didn’t pass the programming module. He then thought how useful it would be for students who had passed a module at the same university, with the same professor and the same methodology, to be able to offer private classes to those who still had to pass.

The platform is available to use free of charge on the Sharing Academy website, and Android users can download the app on Google Play.
